My Modern Sizing Chart

To give a better idea how the measurements of a garment compare to modern sizes I use the chart below.

Before you start...

Use a cloth tape and measure over bare skin or your underwear (if your wearing a padded bra for example please bear in mind this will alter your size).

When taking the measurement make sure the tape is level and not too tight.

Stand up straight and relax. If you struggle ask a friend to help.

Measurements Explained

BUST : This is the measurement of your circumference at the fullest part of your bust, under your armpits and across your shoulder blades.

WAIST: The circumference of your natural waistline, this is above your belly button and below your ribcage. Do not suck your stomach in, this won't give you an accurate measurement.

HIPS: Is the circumference of fullest part of your hips and bum. Please bear in mind with the fit here that you will need room to sit and bend!

WAIST TO HEM: This will tell you how long the skirt is. Place the tape on your waistline and where the length finishes is wear the garment will end on you.

NAPE OF NECK TO HEM: Measure from the base of your neck and where the length finishes is how long the garment is.

SHOULDER TO HEM: Measure from the top of your shoulder down to see the length of a garment.

SHOULDER WIDTH: This is the width from shoulder seam to shoulder seam across your shoulder blades.

If you hold the tape at the given size on the item listing and hold it around you it will give you an idea if the item will fit comfortably. Alternatively you could compare the measurements to your own clothes that fit comfortably.

Sizing Accessories

Ladies Glove Size

To find out your glove size, measure the circumference around your palm (just below the knuckles) of your most dominant hand.

Next measure the length from the tip of your middle finger to your wrist.

Using these measurements, see the chart below for your glove size. If your inbetween sizes opt for the larger size.

Hat Size

To work out your hat size use a cloth tape measure and measure around the circumference of your head making sure the tape is not twisted.

The tape will need to be placed where the band of the hat will sit. This will vary on the style of the hat and how you personally will want to wear it.
